DAVID JAMES
Having grown up a Luton Town supporter, David took the brave step of signing for Watford after leaving school in 1986. He made his league debut in goal for the Hornets in August 1990, which Watford went on to lose 2-1 to Millwall. James went on to make 89 appearances for Watford and in that time was named Player of the Season in 1990/91. He has also been inducted into Watford’s Hall of Fame. James was sold to Liverpool in 1992 and his career progressed steadily, making appearances for England in 2010 World Cup and winning the FA Cup whilst at Portsmouth.
In Tales from the Vicarage volume 1, David writes about how being at Watford whilst still a teenager gave him a sense of belonging and how it kick-started his career as a goalkeeper.
