NICK BARNES

Nick Barnes works for BBC Newcastle as their Sunderland commentator, a position he has held since 2003. He works alongside the former Sunderland captain Gary Bennett. Before taking on his current role Nick was commentator for five years with Newcastle United and before that, seven years with Carlisle United , working in between times for BBC Sport in London.

Nick has worked under over a dozen managers at Sunderland including Roy Keane, Steve Bruce, Martin O’Neill and David Moyes. He completed a chapter on the managers he had worked under for Tales from the Red & Whites volume 1 at a time when Dick Advocaat was the incumbent only to see the Dutchman leave when the book was published and since then has seen three managers come and go and now hopes Simon Grayson is at Sunderland for at least a few years!

Nick Barnes' Matchbook is also available in the form of beautifully crafted match notes for season 2015/16 in a unique box set design. A collection celebrating a love of football, statistics and art. The A6 size 40 card set in presentation box includes the background to Barnes’ creations and a detailed and unique review of every Premier League match of another dramatic season.
