RICK BROADBENT

Rick’s first football game was half-decent. It was the European Cup semi-final against Barcelona, and Leeds won 2-1. Not that he was bothered, having been dragged there by his dad who reasoned this was a landmark event that no Leeds-born six-year-old should miss. A season ticket-holder during the original decline, he has worked at The Times since the days when there was a Yorkshire patch, now covering a range of sports, writing books, trying to get kids into reading and writing via www.presspackers.com, but mostly wishing he had appreciated that it was not the norm for Leeds to spend Wednesday nights turning over Johan Cruyff in front of more than 50,000 people.
